Saturday, April 10th was a night of celebration and remembrance at Cheney Stadium. S.H.I.E.L.D. NIGHT was a tribute to the service of and a celebration of the lives of Western Washington's fallen officers. Over 200 officers from all over the South Sound attended and six jerseys were dedicated to the region's recently fallen officers and presented to their families on field.
The Tacoma Rainiers teamed up with the Lakewood Police Independent Guild (LPIG) Charitable Fund to sell tickets to the evening's game. Overall, about $6500 in ticket sales went to the Fund. The specialty jerseys that were worn by the team were auctioned off at the end of the evening and raised close to an additional $3500. The LPIG Charitable Fund is a designated fund to assist officers who have been injured in the line of duty or families of future fallen officers.
The night was a success with nearly $10,000 raised, an on-field ceremony to honor the fallen officers and their families, and a post-game tributary fireworks show given by Entertainment Fireworks, Inc. as a donation to the event. S.H.I.E.L.D. NIGHT will be an annual event for the Tacoma Rainiers.
