COMSTOCK PARK- With the high school football season coming to a close, there are still several big matchups left in West Michigan. Fifth Third Ballpark will host one of those matchups on Friday at 7:00 p.m. as Caledonia takes on Catholic Central in an OK Gold Conference showdown.
The OK Gold Conference has been one of the toughest in the area this season. Four of the conference's eight teams can clinch a playoff spot with a win on Friday. Caledonia is 4-1 in the OK Gold and 5-2 overall. With a win against Catholic Central, the Fighting Scots can clinch their fifth consecutive playoff appearance. The Cougars are 3-2 in the OK Gold and 4-3 overall. A win against Caledonia and next week against Forest Hills Eastern would lock up a playoff berth for the Cougars.
"We are very proud to be playing at Fifth Third Ballpark for the second straight year," said Catholic Central Athletic Director Todd Kolster. "Our athletes, staff, students and parents are sure to enjoy the experience."
Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
This will be the third football game held at Fifth Third Ballpark this season. Michigan Tech beat Ferris State University, 38-6, on October 3 and Coopersville handed Forest Hills Northern a 34-24 loss last week.
The ballpark has hosted football games in each of the last two years. Grand Valley State University took on Wayne State University in 2007. In 2008, Catholic Central played Ottawa Hills and Forest Hills Northern took on Cedar Springs.
Tickets for the football game can be purchased at the West Michigan Glass Block Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
