Bisons Win Final Home Game in Walk-off Fashion

Despite struggling at home this season, the Bisons left Coca-Cola Field and Herd fans on a good note; winning on a walk-off single by Luis Rivera in the bottom of the 10th inning. Buffalo beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon on the final home game of the 2009 season. Singles by Chip Ambres and Jason Dubois and an intentional walk to Javier Castillo loaded the bases for the Herd with one out in the 10th. After a Robinson Cancel pop out, Rivera came through in the clutch dropping a base hit between the second baseman and right fielder. Ambres scored the winning run as his teammates jumped out of the dugout to congratulate Rivera. The Bisons end the season with a 29-43 record at Coca-Cola Field but have played much better since the all-star break, compiling a 14-11 mark at home since the break. The Herd took a 3-2 lead into the ninth but Shelley Duncan showed why he's the IL MVP, delivering a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to tie the game at three. Ambres' two-run home run in the fifth inning put the Bisons in front 3-1. The homer was Ambres' 12th on the season and ninth in a Bisons uniform. In the sixth, Adam Bostick got the Herd out of a one-out bases loaded jam to preserve a one run lead. Eddie Kunz started the inning but could only get one out, leaving with the bases-loaded and a run already home. But Bostick retired Cody Ransom on a shallow fly to right field and struck out Freddy Guzman to get out of the jam. The Bisons platted a run in the third inning but the Herd could have added more. The Bisons had the bases loaded after three consecutive singles and run already in but a pop out and strikeout got the Yankees out of the inning. Andy Green's RBI single back through the middle scored Rivera from second giving the Herd the 1-0 edge. Jose Sanchez made his second start for the Herd and first at Coca-Cola Field. The Triple-A rookie went five innings allowed four hits, one run and struck out four. The Bisons close out their 2009 campaign with five games in Lehigh Valley, including a doubleheader on Friday.
