Stars Offer Trade to Packers for Favre

The Huntsville Stars, the Southern League Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, announced today that the team has formally offered a trade to the NFL's Green Bay Packers for future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

The trade, if accepted, would send two Stars interns, one intern to be named later and a game used Matt LaPorta jersey to the Packers in exchange for Favre. LaPorta was a Stars outfielder until being traded by Milwaukee to Cleveland for CC Sabathia, upgrading the Brewers roster.

"We have a very dedicated and loyal staff here in Huntsville," Stars' General Manager Buck Rogers said. "We know Favre would be an asset to our organization, and believe that the loyalty and dedication of our interns is much needed in Green Bay. Additionally, as a Wisconsinite, this trade would effectively end the distractions surrounding Favre's possible return to the Packers and allow the team to go on with their preparation for the upcoming football season."

While Rogers and the Stars anxiously await a response from the Packers, they have already begun to prepare for their newest acquisition. If the trade is accepted, the team will petition the Southern League and Minor League Baseball in an effort to have the team's primary logo script changed from 'STARS' to 'STAVRS' for the remainder of the 2008 season.

"The simple addition of the 'V' may not seem like much, but we really feel like it's the best way to welcome Brett," Rogers explained. "It's kind of our way of telling Brett that this is his team. Huntsville's much like Kiln, Mississippi, only bigger."

Other plans include:
-- Stars' Concessions Manager Scott Tolmach has already contacted a number of suppliers about the possibility of bringing 'Brett Farve Waffles,' a new ice cream dessert, to the ballpark.
-- Retiring jersey #4.
-- Favre throwing out every game's honorary first pitch, from his back foot from centerfield and attempting to have it caught by a teammate, not an opponent.
-- Because the # 4 is legendary, kids will be able to play catch with Favre on field before home games as part of the 'Brett Favre 4-play' promotion.
