The Newark Bears' Ed Rommel, who went on to win 171 games in a 13-year career with the Philadelphia Athletics, no-hit the Toronto Maple Leafs, 1-0. In his next outing, he fired a one-hitter against the Buffalo Bisons yet took the loss, 1-0. Rommel was also an American League umpire from 1938-1959.

The San Bernardino Spirit defeated the host San Jose Giants, 1-0, in 21 innings. The two Pacific Coast League teams played 11 2/3 frames before the game was suspended, then completed it the following day in a total of five hours and 56 minutes.
