The Daytona Cubs (71-62, 37-26) dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night to the Clearwater Threshers (66-67, 29-34) with a final score 2-1 in ten innings. Both starting pitchers were the main story with both starters going six-plus innings. More>
In a pitching duel that went extra-innings, the Cubs (70-60, 36-24) came up short, dropping a 5-1 contest to the Lakeland Flying Tigers (67-63, 30-30). Knotted at one run a piece after ten innings, the Flying Tigers used five consecutive singles to open the eleventh inning, scoring four runs to secure the victory.
The Cubs win in walk-off fashion as Evan Crawford lifted a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Jose Valdez and give Daytona (70-59, 36-23) a 2-1 victory over Clearwater (62-67, 25-34). Jeff Beliveau (4-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the victory as the Cubs are now streaking, winners of three in a row.
With a third inning offensive explosion, the Daytona Cubs (69-59, 35-23) cruised to an 8-2 victory to open their series with the Clearwater Threshers (62-66, 25-33). The first eight men reached base and scored for the Cubs in the 3rd, capped off by a Kyler Burke grand slam. Starter Brooks Raley would use the support to cruise through six innings, earning his team leading seventh victory of 2010.
The Daytona Cubs and local restaurant the Hot Dog Hut are pleased to announce the first annual Hot Dog Eating Contest to take place during the Cubs game on Saturday, August 28th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The contest will award a cash prize of $100 to the champion and a ten game flex-pack of tickets for the 2011 season.
