Decker tops Arizona League All-Stars
08/27/2009 1:09 PM ET
It's safe to say that Cody Decker exceeded the Padres' expectations in his first professional season.

The Arizona League released its 2009 Postseason All-Stars and named Decker, San Diego's 22nd-round Draft pick this past June, its MVP. Heading into Thursday's games, the infielder leads the league in home runs (14), RBIs (61) and his .356 average is just 10 points shy of giving him the lead in all Triple Crown categories.

Andy Bottin was named the Manager of the Year after leading the Mariners to a league-leading 32-21 record this year. Joining Bottin on the team are his second baseman, Kevin Mailloux, and pitchers Anthony Fernandez and Jeff Breedlove.

Although there were plenty of talented players on the team, Mike Trout provided the star power as the Angels' No. 1 Draft pick in June. The 25th overall pick is currently batting .365 -- one point off fellow All-Star Jesus Brito's league-leading mark of .366 -- with 24 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.

San Francisco's Cameron Lamb paced the All-Star pitchers with a 2.24 ERA in 12 starts for the AZL Giants. Roberto Feliciano also put up good enough numbers out of the Dodgers' bullpen to earn the nod despite a recent promotion to Class A Great Lakes. The left-hander posted a 1.50 ERA and struck out 27 batters compared to just six walks in 24 innings.

The Arizona League regular season ends on Aug. 29 and the postseason kicks off on Sunday, Aug. 30 when the first-half division winners face the second-half division winners for the right to play in the championship game on Aug. 31.
