Maiques sets Swing saves record 08/14/2007 12:10 AM ET By Alan Friedman / Special to MLB.com Kenneth Maiques became Quad Cities' all-time single-season saves leader as the Swing topped visiting Fort Wayne, 5-2, on Monday. Maiques, a 22-year-old right-hander, allowed one hit and struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to notch his 27th save, eclipsing the mark set by John Huey of the Quad City Cubs in 1983. Maiques has saved all but four of the Swing's victories this year. He is second in saves in the league to Beloit's Robert Delaney, who has 28. Reliever Jason Cairns (2-0) gave up one run on three hits, fanning one without issuing a walk over three frames to pick up the win for the Swing (31-18). Quad Cities' Steve Hill smacked his 10th homer, a three-run shot in the first inning, while Jaime Landin went 4-for-4. Jodam Rivera went 3-for-4 and Cedric Hunter and Tom King drove in a run apiece for the Wizards (17-32). Fort Wayne starter Brandon Gomes (0-3) yielded five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits, fanning seven in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
